Rear window graphics from Signazon.com are a unique way to personalize your vehicle. Since all rear windows are different, it’s important to measure your rear window and size your order
very carefully to ensure you receive a piece that will fit. Here is an explanation of how to order the perfect rear window graphic:
Step 1. Measure Your Window Size
Signazon.com offers a Rear Window Size Wizard, which you can use to enter your vehicle’s year, make, and model and find the dimensions of your window.
These are only estimates and are not guaranteed. Always measure your vehicle’s window to confirm the Wizard’s dimensions and ensure the best fit. You’ll want to measure four dimensions: Outer Height, Inner Height, Top Width and Bottom Width.
We will need all four measurements to ensure your design will fit in your rear window after installation. Providing the largest height and width ensures that you receive enough printed material, whereas the smaller height and width ensure that none of your design elements will be trimmed away during installation. When measuring your window, stop at the inside edge of any window seal or trim, as this is the actual surface area to which you can apply a rear window graphic.
Heights
- Outer Height: This is vertical distance from the top corner of the window straight down.
- Inner Height: This is the longest vertical distance from the top to the bottom of the window. In most cases, this is in the middle of the window.
Widths
- Top Width: This is the distance across the top of the window, from the left side to the right side.
- Bottom Width: This is the distance across the bottom of the window, from the left side to the right side.
Other Elements
If your rear window has a wiper, clips, hinges, a handle, or is covered by a spare tire, please provide the location of these elements on your window so that we can ensure your design accommodates them.
Odd-Shaped Rear Windows
If your window has a unique shape such as the one seen below, you may need to provide additional measurements as well as a picture of your rear window for us to ensure that the rear window graphic fits properly. In the images below, because of the vehicle’s odd-shaped rear window, the Longest Height and Longest Width are different from the standard four dimensions (Outer Height, Inner Height, Top Width and Bottom Width). Simply providing the four standard dimensions might result in a piece that is still too small.
Step 2. Determine Your Product Size
Rear window graphics are printed in a rectangular shape, which, in most cases, will not match the shape of your window. This is to ensure full coverage on your window after the product is installed and trimmed. When you enter your Window Size into the Size Wizard, we will automatically add an additional 2” Safe Zone to the longest height and width (typically the Inner Height and Bottom Width) to create your Product Size. This is the height and width of the rectangular piece of Car One-Way Vision that you will pay for and receive. This extra material gives you 1” of flexibility all the way around to account for errors and adjustments during the application process, as well as the trimming away of excess material after application.
- If you want your graphic to cover your entire rear window, do not adjust your Product Size after entering your window measurements.
- If you do not want a full-coverage rear window graphic but instead would like a centerpiece, simply enter the exact dimensions you need into the Product Height and Width.
Step 3. Consider Your Design Size
Once you have measured your window and determined what size product to order, you can use our easy online design tool or upload your own unique artwork. In the designer, the canvas will match your Product Size (which is bigger than your window to accommodate for trimming). Do
not adjust this canvas size—instead, design your graphic with a 3” border. This means that you should keep all text, images, and anything else you don’t want trimmed off at least 3” from
each edge of your design (so, 6” total). This “Design Size” will account for trimming to the shape of your window. If your window has a wiper, hinges, etc., adjust your design accordingly, leaving no text or images near these areas.
Real Life-Examples
Standard-Shaped Rear Window
Jim drives a 2001 Toyota 4Runner. Signazon’s Rear Window Size Wizard lists his Window Size as:
Upon measuring his actual window, Jim finds the following dimensions:
Jim enters these dimensions and receives a Product Size of 19.5” H x 49.375” W (which includes the 1” Safe Zone on each side to account for trimming).
Jim creates his design with a 3” border on each side. This means his Design Size is 13.5” H x 43.375” W, and all text and images are centered in the design.
Jim receives his order and installs it. A perfect fit!
Odd-Shaped Rear Window
Sue drives a 2009 Nissan Murano. Signazon’s Rear Window Size Wizard lists her Window Size as:
Sue measures her window, which has an odd shape, and finds slightly different dimensions:
Adding the Safe Zone to the Longest Height and Longest Width creates a Product Size of 22.375” H x 53” W. If your window is like Sue’s and has more than the 4 standard dimensions, enter the largest dimensions (height and width) into the Inner Height and Bottom Width categories of the Size Wizard to ensure you order enough material. Through your order notes or by contacting us before your order is printed, you can provide the complete window dimensions as well as a photograph of your vehicle.
Sue creates her design using a 3” border all the way around. This means that her Design Size is 16.375” H x 47” W and all design elements are centered to account for trimming. She also keeps the design 4” from the bottom to stay above the rear windshield wiper.
Sue installs her rear window graphic and trims it to the shape of the window. It looks great!
