The dimensions you select — for example, 18" × 24" (height × width) — represent the total outer boundary of the product, not the size of your artwork inside it.

We recommend a 1-inch safety margin on all four edges to give the cutting blades the clearance they need to make a clean, accurate cut. This means the usable design area inside a 18" × 24" product is approximately 16" × 22".

To achieve a specific artwork height, choose a product that is about 2 inches taller than your target, then scale your design up to fill the usable area.

• Select a product height that is about 2 inches taller than your target artwork height. For a 3" letter, choose an 5" product height — for example, an 5" × 25" product size. This gives the blades room to operate while your artwork reaches 3" inside.

• In our design studio, click "Add Text" and use the text height indicator to confirm the real-world height of your letters. You can view our text side by side with your uploaded logo to compare sizes accurately.
• Scale your artwork up until it fills the usable area of the product. Do not leave it centered with empty space around it — that empty space is what reduces the visible size of your design.

Aspect ratio is the proportional relationship between your design's width and height. When your chosen product dimensions do not match your artwork's natural proportions, you pay for the full product size regardless — the material is still cut and produced at the dimensions you selected, but your design only occupies a portion of it, leaving the rest of the decal blank and unused, your artwork ends up smaller than expected even after accounting for the 1-inch margin on each edge.

Example: You order a 12" × 24" product (1:2 ratio), and your logo is square (1:1 ratio). A 12" × 12" product size better matches the logo, reduces wasted space, and lowers cost. Keep a 1-inch safety margin on all sides for clean cutting.

If placed small (left example), the logo may print around 6" × 6" even though the product added to cart shows 12" × 24". Scaled to fit (right example), it can reach 10” x 10” (up to 11.5" × 11.5") on a 12" × 12" decal.

If all of this math makes your head hurt, don't worry — just review your proof before approving. As long as the product outline is only slightly larger than your design on all sides, you're in good shape. That's really all it needs to be.

We offer two choices. The first is a die-cut of the exact outline of your design (with no border). The second is a shape die-cut that traces the general outline of your design and adds a small ¼-inch to ½-inch white border. This increases the visibility of your graphics.

You can apply car decals to any part of the vehicle that is a mostly flat surface, such as a window, tailgate, or the side doors.

With proper installation and care, vinyl decals on your vehicle can last for several years.

They are also easy to remove with heat assistance (a hair dryer will do) if you need to change your advertising or your message and want to apply a new decal in the future.

Contour cut is the same as our Shape Die-Cut option. Both terms describe a cutting process that traces around the general outline of your design rather than cutting a simple rectangle.

With contour cut (Shape Die-Cut), your decal includes a small border—typically ¼" to ½"—around the edges of your artwork. This border increases visibility against your vehicle's paint and makes the decal easier to handle and install, especially for beginners. 

With contour cut (Shape Die-Cut), your decal arrives on a rectangular backing sheet with your design already cut to shape. The white border surrounds your artwork and connects all elements of your design into one unified piece. It makes complex logos with separate letters or multiple graphic elements much easier to handle and position as a single unit.
