Install Etched Glass Film With Frosted Background & Inside Glass

Below you will find instructions for installing Etched Glass Film with the “Frosted Background” option on the Inside of glass facing outward. This unique, full-coverage material is designed to provide privacy as you will receive a full sheet of frosted window film with the design elements and text cut away. If you ordered the “Frosted Background” and “Inside Glass” options, these instructions are specifically-designed to ease your installation.

Install supplies for Etched Glass with Frosted Background Inside

Tools Needed:

Two people, masking tape, squeegee, glass cleaner, paper towels, tape measure, straight edge (yardstick or similar), and Exact-o knife or razorblade.

Preparation:

Using glass cleaner, thoroughly clean the windows and allow to completely dry. For best results, we recommend outside temperatures be over 65F with low humidity. Read instructions thoroughly.

Note: Etched Glass Film is best installed using Signazon.com’s Installazon Spray. To purchase this, contact our Sales department. Otherwise, the film should be installed using certified installation spray or water for a wet installation to prevent air bubbles from occurring.

Etched Glass Frosted Background Inside Material Layers

Your Etched Glass Film Will Arrive With Three Layers:

The top layer is masking tape, which holds the Etched Glass Film and any cut pieces in place for easy installation.
The middle layer is the Etched Glass Film.
The bottom layer is the white wax paper backing, which protects the Etched Glass Film and the adhesive.

Step 1

Place the Etched Glass Film on a clean, flat surface with the white wax paper backing facing you. Run a squeegee over the backing with even pressure to secure the material to the masking tape. Target any areas that have been cut or include a custom design.

Measure to find your desired location or center point of the glass. For full coverage, align the film so that it is perfectly-centered within the window frame.

Starting from the top of the graphic, pull away 1” of the white paper backing, exposing the adhesive. Fold down the exposed backing to prevent it from curling back up.

Place the exposed adhesive onto the window, masking tape facing you, and secure it with the squeegee. DO NOT remove the remaining backing or masking tape.

Have your partner lift the graphic while you gently and slowly pull down a small section of the backing, exposing about 6” of the adhesive. Do not pull off the entire backing. As you go, use masking tape on each corner of the wax backing to secure it to the window. This will help keep the loose backing from getting in the way while applying the film.

Slowly and firmly squeegee the exposed film to the window. Using long strokes, squeegee both vertically and horizontally across the window, continuing to install 6” of material at a time.

Once the film is in place, squeegee over the entire piece in long strokes, starting from the center and working outward. Push any bubbles toward the outer edges.

Once film is secured to the glass, very gently peel away the top layer of masking tape at a 45 angle. Removing the masking tape too quickly can damage the material.

If you are covering the entire window, follow along the window edge with a razorblade to trim away excess material. Place a straight edge against the side of the window to use as a guide. Follow once more around the edges with a squeegee.

You're done! Once the installation is complete, your Etched Glass Film will create a decorative and impressive design on your windows.

Install Tips for Etched Glass with Frosted Background

Perfecting Etched Glass Film With Frosted Background:

If bubbles remain, use the corner of an Exact-o knife or sharp pin to puncture the bubble, releasing the air. Firmly press down on the puncture with a squeegee or your fingertip.

The full cure time takes approximately 4 to 8 days. Do not use any cleaning solutions on the windows until the film has completely cured.
