Premium 3M Car Film Glossy

Made to apply on automotive painted surfaces, and improve the appearance, performance and durability of your fleet graphic. This premium 3M Polymeric vinyl film is white color, opaque with adhesive backing protected by polyethylene-coated paper liner.  It uses 3M Controltac technology to minimizes the initial contact area of the adhesive for easy sliding, tacking, snap up and repositioning, Air release channels are a characteristic of films that allow trapped air to exit through the edges of the graphic. Do not apply on Rivets. Do not firm pressure with a squeegee or other application tool until you finalized the position. When you are ready to update the graphics, this film can be removed with the aid of heat without leaving adhesive residue.

Reflective

Reflective option is produced an engineer-grade 3M vinyl film with 7 mil thickness. When light hits the material, it reflects, drawing attention to your sign. Great for advertising at night. The most important thing to know is that the entire white film we print on is coated with reflective elements. That means that as more ink is printed on your piece, it becomes less reflective.

Tip: Light colors typically work best. You’ll want to stay away from full-image backgrounds and lots of dark tones. White space is your friend and will ensure your final piece is as reflective as possible.

USDOT Truck Decals — What the Regulation Requires and What Your Fleet Needs

What makes a USDOT marking "permanently affixed" — and why it matters

Under 49 CFR Part 390.21, every qualifying commercial motor vehicle must display its USDOT number and legal business name on both sides of the cab. The federal regulation does not use the phrase "permanently affixed" — but several jurisdictions do, and the distinction carries real consequences at roadside inspections.

New York City is the clearest example. NYC Traffic Rules § 4-01(b)(i)(C) explicitly requires commercial vehicle markings to be permanently affixed in characters at least 3 inches high.

Magnetic signs and repositionable decals do not satisfy this requirement. Any commercial vehicle operating in the five boroughs with removable markings risks a violation regardless of whether those markings are otherwise fully compliant with federal standards.

A USDOT truck decal — pressure-sensitive vinyl bonded directly to the cab door — meets the permanently affixed standard in every jurisdiction that requires it, adhering through commercial washes, highway miles, and seasonal temperature changes without lifting or shifting.

Permanent decal vs. magnetic sign or reusable sticker — what's the real cost of flexibility?

Magnetic USDOT signs and reusable DOT number stickers offer one advantage: they come off. For some fleets that flexibility is genuinely useful.

But flexibility has an operational cost that is easy to underestimate before you've managed a fleet through a winter inspection season.

Magnetic signs must be removed before every commercial wash and require flat storage between runs to prevent warping.

A permanent USDOT truck decal eliminates that variable entirely — on the vehicle the moment it leaves the yard, through every weigh station and roadside inspection, without a checklist.

Can a USDOT decal include my logo, phone number, and website — and still be compliant?

Yes. Federal and state regulations govern size, placement, and legibility — not design. Everything beyond those required fields is your choice.

Your USDOT truck decal can — and should — incorporate your company logo, brand colors, phone number, website, and custom graphics, as long as the required information remains clearly legible.

Signazon's DOT number sticker configurator applies your logo and brand colors automatically across the design, with room to add your phone number and website alongside your required USDOT markings — generating compliance-verified layouts before you order.

Does a custom-branded full color USDOT decal cost more than plain number?

No. A fully designed fleet graphic with your logo, contact details, and brand colors costs the same as a plain text decal to produce. Signazon's die-cut production process prints your full design in one pass — whether that's two lines of black text or a full-color branded layout. The price is determined by size and quantity, not design complexity.

Car Decal File Preparation

Design Guidelines

Have a design file ready for print? We recommend that you review the following guidelines before placing your order.
Total File Size With Bleed (H x W):
Finished Product Size (H x W):
Understanding File Setup
Bleed Area Add 0.125in.
Extend your background to fill the full "bleed area." This will make sure you do not end up with white edges when your product is cut.
Finished Project Size What you selected on this page
This is where we aim to cut your final product size.
Safe Zone Inset 0.125in.
Keep all of the important elements of your design-text, logo, icons-inside this area. It's okay for backgrounds and images to run all the way to the bleed area.
What type of files will you accept?
We recommend vector-based .PDF design files. Most major design applications can generate a print-ready .PDF by using the Save As feature and selecting “Adobe PDF.” If you are unable to obtain a .PDF file for your design, the best are those in .EPS or .AI (CS3 or higher) format with all text converted to outlines.
Recommended file types:
Vector-based .PDF, .PS, .PSD, or .EPS. Vector-based Adobe Illustrator .AI
Other accepted file types:
.PNG, .TIF, . BMP, .GIF, or .JPG

Car Decal FAQs

How do I know if my USDOT lettering is actually 2 inches tall?

Every Signazon USDOT template is built with lettering already set above the 2-inch minimum — compliance is factored in before you start designing. If you want to verify the exact height inside Design Studio, click the text box containing your USDOT number and the letter height displays directly.

One thing worth knowing: Wrap Text is intentionally disabled for the USDOT number field. This keeps your number on a single line rather than breaking across two, which would reduce letter height and create a compliance issue. Instead the text scales horizontally to fit your decal size — maintaining the required height across every standard size we offer.

Does the decal go on the trailer too, or just the cab?

Just the cab. Under 49 CFR Part 390.21, USDOT markings must appear on both sides of the self-propelled power unit — the cab itself. The trailer is not required to display your USDOT number, and applying markings to any removable part of the vehicle, including the trailer, does not satisfy the federal requirement. Order two decals — one for each side of the cab.

What happens to my USDOT decal when I need to remove it or sell my truck?

It comes off cleanly. Heat a heat gun or hair dryer to around 65°F–120°F and move it evenly across the decal surface — keep it 5–6 inches from the vinyl and don't hold it in one spot.

Once the adhesive softens, peel back from a corner at a 30–45 degree angle with slow, steady pressure. If any adhesive residue remains, an adhesive remover spray and microfiber cloth clears it without damaging the paint. The surface is ready for the next owner.

One tip: work in a shaded area at moderate temperature — cold weather makes vinyl brittle and harder to peel cleanly.
